All of Medulla’s art is strong statements. Hailing from Barranquilla, Colombia, her life has been surrounded by a society in which sexism and gender norms are still mostly unchallenged, not to mention racism and subsisting traces of colonialism. Her work exists as a counterargument for all of this, and she persistently uses her body as the primary artistic tool for it. Her body, and others, are a means of protest, of counterculture, and of individual freedom that serve almost as living sculptures in her photography and short films.
