Melody Melamed uses her camera to shine a light into the lives of trans and queer people. She demystifies them, photographing their relationships to their own bodies in their commonplace environments. Another strategy Melamed adopts to normalize trans bodies is portraying their partners’ contact with them. She does all of this without gimmicks, showing them at their most vulnerable, but giving them beautiful and necessary visibility. Her style also influences her fashion work for FAAN and Glassbook, and she has done shoots for PAPER Magazine and Financial Times. Melamed resides in New York, and is represented by MK Artist Representation.
